These tires offer excellent traction on harder surfaces, such as construction lots, and are less aggressive on grass than an R1 tire. An R4 tire is more aggressive than an R3 tire, however, it is less aggressive than an R1 tire. The depth of the R4 tread is approximately 70 percent deeper than that of an R1 tire. What is the basic difference? R1 tires are mainly used for agriculture on dry land or where the soil is average to good.
However, an R4 tire is better for working in factories or in the highway department. R4 tires are most commonly used in road or hard terrain applications. They have a tread depth that is approximately midway between the depth of R1 and R3 tires. These tires are typically made of a more wear-resistant compound that holds up well on asphalt and dirt, making them the ideal choice when working between heavier work and turf projects.
Our third and final test will be with the new R14 tire. As we said before, the R14 is supposed to be the hybrid between an R4, the aggressiveness in the center of the line, and an R1, the really aggressive tire. It should be somewhere in between, being a little friendlier on the grass, but still giving us that traction. Let's take a look at this and see how it works.
Because tractors tend to put more weight on the rear tires than on the front tires, the rear tires must be strong. Because of the difference in tire diameter, the rotation ratio of larger tires can increase by a factor of one. We're going to tear down three of Kubota's B series tractors, one with R4 tires, one with the new R14 and another with this zig-zag hybrid pattern that I've had for a while, connect them to the load cell and measure exactly what the difference in traction is between these tire options. If you have R1 tires on the front and the bucket is empty (not the loader), the tractor will become very unbalanced.
It's difficult to calculate overall efficiency individually because they're perfect for different jobs.
